Born in Peru to parents in the diplomatic service, Mark Slater was educated at Wellington College and St Edmund Hall, Oxford.
He began his teaching career at Lord Wandsworth College in Hampshire, before returning to his old school, Wellington, where he served for 14 years as a Modern Languages teacher and a Housemaster. He was then appointed to the Headship of St Lawrence College, Ramsgate, and moved to The Leys, Cambridge, where he was Headmaster for nearly ten years. He retired in December 2013, and joined the Governing Body of Framlingham College shortly afterwards.
He is married with two grown-up daughters. His interests include walking, golf, languages and travel.
