On Wednesday 18th January, the Classical Upper Sixth attended a lecture given at RHS by Dr Danielle Frisby of King’s College, London.
The title was “Unpicking the shroud: the women of epic and weaving of narrative”. The talk was excellently presented, with scholarship so lightly worn, while presenting students with a range of challenging ideas about the nature of epic verse and how the weaving woman appears constantly in it, though in very different guises ranging from the powerless Andromache to the scheming Helen.
We are most grateful to RHS for hosting this event which, quite apart from the intrinsic value of the subject matter, gave an insight into how the Classics are now taught at a top university.
