The Lower Sixth English society kicked off their year at the start – the start of ‘modern literature’ according to former Fram Head of English, Dr Ian Baird.
Dr Baird led an informative and entertaining session setting out some of the facts around Chaucer and the Canterbury Tales before giving the students a taste of middle English recitation and a convincing argument about Chaucer’s modernity. It was a splendid start to the society schedule which is designed to go beyond the curriculum and inspire and educate our literature students about aspects of literature which aren’t necessarily ‘in the exam’.
