Framlingham College’s U16 Girls indoor squad are off to the National Indoor Finals in January 2020 after a successful day at Queenswood School, which saw them crowned East Indoor Champions.
In what was a tough looking round robin tournament, playing against all the County Champions in the region, the girls were well aware of the challenges that lied ahead. Their first match saw them take on Norwich School where after a gentle start to the game, the girls grew into it and ran out 3-0 winners.
Sevenoaks School were up next and proved a real test for Framlingham. After going 0-1 down and 1-2 down, they managed to secure a penalty corner with seconds to spare and in overtime converted it to tie the game at 2-2. There was no let-up in standard of opposition as Haileybury were next for Framlingham – where the girls soon found themselves 1-4 down in the game. However, in a real turning point in their day, five unanswered Framlingham goals saw the girls turn the match on it’s head and run away 6-4 winners.
With all to play for heading into their final two games, Framlingham were keen to not ease up. They raced into a 4-0 lead versus New Hall and it looked like it was going to end that way. But aware that goal difference might come into play, three late goals saw the girls finish as 7-0 winners and bolster their goal difference.
Heading into their final game against The Perse, it materialised that both Framlingham and their opponents had qualified for the National Finals – leaving just the title of East Champions up for grabs. Once again, Framlingham found themselves trailing at half time; but their character and resolve shone once agaim to initially claw back into the game and yet another converted penalty corner in the dying moments of the game ensured a 3-2 victory.
This sees Framlingham College crowned East Indoor Champions and their place secured at the National Indoor Finals in January 2020, held at Bromsgrove School.
