The Framlingham College Prep School Under 13A rugby team capped a remarkable season yesterday with a comprehensive victory over Orwell Park School. In their 9 matches this season, they have scored 97 tries and only conceded 9, whilst they also remained unbeaten at the College’s Annual Prep Schools’ Rugby Festival in October. Their counterparts in the Under 13B team also had an unblemished record in what has been an outstanding year to date for Under 13 sport at the renowned Prep School.

Stand-out performances came against Felsted School, The Perse School, Royal Hospital School and Finborough School. The team’s adventure and ambition has been rewarded, with a ‘run at all costs’ strategy reaping rich rewards.

Head of Rugby, Nick Gandy, commented, ‘this is an extraordinary achievement, not only in terms of statistics but also in the quality of the team’s performances. The squad has a tremendous spirit and work ethic, which has created an incredibly enjoyable and purposeful environment within which the individual players can develop. There have been times when we have had to manage our fixtures to ensure that they are competitive contests in line with the Age Grade Rugby programme set out by England Rugby – this has sometimes involved initiatives like reducing our playing numbers or adapting laws in conjunction with the opposition and referees.’

The team’s success comes at a time when the Under 13 Girls’ Hockey team have also remained unbeaten in their regular season as well as finishing second at the IAPS National Championships last month.

These are exciting times for sport at the College, who are looking for talented and motivated young sportsmen and sportswomen to join these highly successful Under 13 groups. The deadline for 13+ Scholarships is Friday 13th December.
