The College U13 sailing team achieved an incredible 5th place finish at the annual IAPS National Sailing Regatta, making them one of the leading junior sailing teams in the country out of more than 20 schools who entered the competition.
The four-piece team of Year 8 Prep School pupils, Seb D, Christian H, George R and Raff L, have been busy training at the Aldeburgh Yacht Club ahead of the national competition, which was held on May 23, at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy in Dorset – home of the London 2012 Olympic Sailing fixtures.
Participating against nearly 80 sailors from 23 schools in tough Force 4 conditions, the boys showed incredible teamwork, communication, and nautical skills throughout the competition.
Simon Means, Head of Sailing at Framlingham College Prep School, said: “After nearly four hours on the water and completing four races, it was amazing for the team to achieve 5th placed school team overall. Seb and Raff narrowly missed out on medals but, with George and Christian finishing in the top twenty, it meant that Framlingham College Prep School were the first non-local team to rank in the top spots.”
The IAPS National Regatta gives pupils from Prep Schools across the UK the opportunity to come together and compete out on the water. It provides a platform for young sailors to showcase their skills as well as foster a sense of sportsmanship.
Mr Means continued: “This is a fantastic achievement for the boys, and we are so proud. We hope that they will all continue their sailing at Senior School, and we look forward to seeing them progress in the future.”
