Joanna Maberly and Georgie Seymour were awarded Highly Commended at the annual prize giving of the Anna Airey Award Exhibition, for artists aged 16-20.
Several College students presented work from the AS element of their A Level, against stiff competition from other local schools and Sixth Form Colleges. Joanna presented two films, the first time the competition has accepted films; one titled “Nostalgia” and called “Shell Shock”. Georgie presented her beautiful painting “Lily”, a large scale portrait, painted with great skill using lollipop sticks.
Other pieces on display from our students were elements photographs by Alex Dabbs, a film piece about a walk in the woods by Oli Catford, a complex abstract painting by Zuza Markovska together with her precision observational painting of a rose, a pointillism large scale painting by Beatrice Heaton, a ballet shoes drawing by Molly Barnard, mixed media photographic paintings by Amy Walker, a comic book inspired painting by Kieran Wilson and photographic montage images by Indigo Hornsby Cox.
The exhibition will run until 29th November, in University of Suffolk foyer and gallery. This year presents one of the most exciting displays there has been.
