As one chapter of boarding at the prep school reaches its end, with the departure of Mr Gregory as Housemaster, we reflect on the success of this most flexible of boarding models.
Brandeston Plus has often been described as a hotel for children with outstanding pastoral care from a dedicated boarding team. It provides a safe, fun and caring environment, which is utilised by the pupils because they want to spend time with friends and by parents, as it supports their increasingly demanding and busy lives.
There is no question Brandeston Plus has become a part of the whole school life at Brandeston Hall. At the time of writing 141 different children out of a school roll in Year 3-8 of 186 (76%), as well as a handful of Year 2 children, who have turned 7 by the end of the summer term, have boarded in one form or another. Our multi-night flexi boarders make up a large number of the percentage and this is where we have seen our greatest increase in numbers over the last 4 years.
The arrival of Mr Marland in September starts a whole new chapter in boarding but Brandeston Plus is here to stay. Mr Marland is very keen to continue to develop and build on the friendly, family feel which he felt when walked through the door on his very first visit. He is, with his wife and two young sons, looking forward to moving into the Hall over the summer, getting settled and making the school feel like home from home for anyone who boards.
