This year’s Cabaret was called “Fascinating Rhythm”, and was a spectacular evening of Jazz from the early 20th Century. We were all transfixed by the professional and polished performances given by students from year 9 to 13. Playing to a packed audience, we were treated to songs such as “Minnie the Moocher” and “Stairway to Paradise” with full orchestral accompaniment, all the way to an incredibly nuanced interpretation of “Cry me a River” with guitar and trombone accompaniment.

The Pièce de résistance was Marty Gionis’ performance of “All of Me’, with Marty playing the solo trombone and trumpet parts (two trumpets at one time – who knew that was possible!) along to a pre-recorded big band backing, with every part having been played by Marty! As if that wasn’t impressive enough, he had a video of himself playing everything running at the same time. Incredible creativity from this quite incredible young musician!

Huge congratulations to all of our musicians involved in this performance. It truly was a night to remember, and we are proud of the level of excellence and musicianship that our students produce across all styles of music.
