As a memorial to Prince Albert, Framlingham College celebrated its Founders’ Day service on Tuesday, 19th April in the glorious early summer sun.
One year on from its 150th anniversary, there was still a real poignancy as the students from all the boarding houses and Brandeston Hall honoured the founders of the College. Family names that are synonymous with Suffolk such as Garrett, Stradbroke, Pembroke and Rendlesham were celebrated because they gave generously to the construction and improvement of Suffolk’s iconic school building. The words of King George V who famously suggested that “you are the heirs of a great past, but the future is yours” echoed around the grounds as some 500 students and staff sang ‘Jerusalem’ in front of the memorial statue of Prince Albert. Rev Bayman then went on to remind the College that success is only of merit if one makes a significant contribution to the lives of others both in the community and in later life.
