Talented young mathematicians from Year 8 and Year 9 took part in a dynamic, high-intensity math contest – battling in teams of 4 to through tough investigations, difficult cross number puzzles and brain-straining relays to amass the most points.
Our students are a competitive breed and gave their all to solve simultaneous equations, pick the right palindromic number and calculate missing angles; they were immersed in mathematical reasoning and language. Communication was to key to success and our Year 13 team referees were impressed by the determination, persistence and encouragement shown within the teams.
It was fabulous to see new maths-friendships forming by the end of lunchtime and a joy to host so many former Fram Prep pupils.
All who took part are winners in our eyes – who will forget Finlay’s dance of delight or Joel’s windmill wave to celebrate their relay successes? Energy and effort oozed from every pore of every team-player; by the close of play, they had given their all and made their maths teachers really proud. The accolade of top scoring team and worthy winners of the Jelly Babies this year were Team 1: Sophie Pettitt and William Singleton (Year 8) and Louis Francis-Smith and Rebecca Yardy (Year 9).
