The History Society held its first meeting of the academic year in the Boardroom on the evening of Thursday 22nd September.
This was an opportunity for Upper and Lower Sixth students to meet up, with a number of the Upper Sixth discussing the Historical Investigations they have chosen as part of their A Level course, something the Lower Sixth will be doing this time next year. There has been a wide range of choices this year, and the evening’s main focus was on two, Pippa Crabtree’s Reflections on the French Revolution of 1789, and then Dominic Weatherby’s exploration of how Shakespeare has shaped our image of English kings from Richard II, through Henry V, to Richard III. Other students chipped in on topics ranging from the Punic Wars to nineteenth-century imperialism.
The cookies were of the usual high standard (thank you, Mr Betham), Abby Gooderham was clearly mistress of the computer images, and a number of the Lower Sixth went away wondering what they would do next time. Meanwhile we look forward to Marc Morris’ visit on Tuesday (27th).
