As the new Academic Year kicked off yesterday it seemed strange not to see Mary Barlow welcoming the new Year 1 children into her colourful inviting classroom.
After 16 years as a much loved Year 1 teacher at Framlingham College Prep School, Mrs Barlow has celebrated her retirement from teaching.
Mary Barlow joined the Pre-Prep department from Bedfield Primary school and brought to the Prep School her own special brand of warmth, care and dedication which children, parents and staff have benefitted from over the years.
Mrs Barlow’s classroom has special memories for all the children. Even those in Year 8 still fondly remember her myriad of resources to explore and in particular, the home corner and huge variety of books.
Framlingham College Prep School offers plenty of opportunities for children to develop their academic, sporting and artistic abilities and Mrs Barlow often attended the recitals, ballet shows, concerts and plays. Over the last term of her career Mrs Barlow attended all the events in the calendar!
Mrs Barlow said that as soon as she started teacher training college she knew she was home. She is the very epitome of a person who found their vocation.
Ruth Steggles, Head of Pre-Prep commented: “Mrs Barlow might say she “just wanted to be a good class teacher” but every child who has been taught by her, every parent who has been supported and helped and every colleague who has worked with her knows Mrs Barlow is so much more than just a teacher. She will support you, nurture you and be on your side as well as help you to learn. We are so grateful to Mrs Barlow for everything she has done over the last 16 years. We will miss her and we wish her a very Happy Retirement.”
