Framlingham College is thrilled to announce that once again it has been chosen as an MCC Foundation Cricket Hub for 2020 providing free coaching to state-educated 11-15 year olds.
The Hubs, of which there are now 54, are the flagship programme of the MCC Foundation. In 2019, 50 Hubs, fully funded by the MCC, delivered an extremely successful national programme which saw over 1900 young cricketers benefit from ten weeks of coaching. The majority of players went on to play for clubs with 19% going on to join county squads. Not only did the Hubs improve performance but research showed the Hubs also increased a player’s overall confidence.
The Framlingham Hub, the only one in Suffolk, has been so successful over the past two years that a new group (U15 Girls) has been added to this year’s programme. The Foundation hopes that this new group will help raise the percentage of girls in the system from 16% in 2019 to 30% in 2020. The U15 Girls will be in addition to the U15 Boys and U13 Boys categories.
Abi Carter, Director of the MCC Foundation, said: “There is a real dearth of cricket in the state secondary sector, often due to a lack of playing facilities and teachers confident in their ability to coach. Our Hubs are filling a major gap in provision, by providing excellent coaching and facilities to young people who may otherwise not have the opportunity to play regularly and fulfil their potential”.
The trials for the Framlingham Hub will take place on Sunday 17th November 2019 at the Sports Hall at Framlingham College.
- 10am-12pm – U15 Boys
- 12:15pm-2:15pm – U13 Boys
- 2:30pm-4:30pm – Girls (11-15 yrs)
Following the selection process, the programme will start for all groups on Monday 6th January for 10 weeks (excl. 17th February) lead by ECB Level 2 and 3 coaches.
