On Saturday, students visited Royal Hospital School for RHS’s inaugural Model United Nations conference. The students represented the delegation of China, debating in a variety of committees, ranging from Security Council to ECOSOC.
The students all contributed extensively to debates focusing on a range of issues, including North Korea’s nuclear proliferation and controlling greenhouse emissions in developing economies. The school saw its best ever results, with every member of the team receiving some form of commendation for their efforts. Niall Pearson-Shaul, Ellen Stenflo, Brodie Blore and Freddie Steward all received commendations for their participation in their respective committees. This is an outstanding achievement for all the Year 9 students, especially as it was their first time at an MUN conference.
Freddie Green received highly commendable for his work in the ECOSOC committee and Rhys Pearson-Shaul received best delegate in the Security Council. This is an excellent achievement as contributing to a Security Council is often challenging, with limited opportunities to break into the debate. The group also won highly commendable for their delegation as a whole. The day was a great success and Model United Nations has a bright future at the College.
