It was an amazing evening of linguistic creativity, as we hosted the Prep School 2024 Poetry By Heart final.
On Tuesday 8th October, our Prep School held the renowned Poetry By Heart final – a national poetry speaking competition aimed to inspire and encourage pupils of all ages to embrace and embody poetry, while providing an opportunity to perform in front of an audience.
Judged by the Head of the Prep School, Simon Roche, and local children’s author, Kate Rolfe, our nine finalists from Upper and Lower Prep showcased their incredible talents by memorising and performing pieces of contemporary poetry and classic sonnets to the school community.
Many of the finalists chose poems by Joshua Seigal, an award-winning professional poet, who visited the Prep School last term for a series of fantastic and immersive poetry workshops.
Our finalists and winners:
Year 5: Rollo L performing ‘I Don’t Like Poetry’, by Joshua Seigal. George W performing ‘Don’t Get Me Started’, by Joshua Seigal.
