On Tuesday November 12, our Prep School pupils experienced a wonderfully engaging and informative Egyptian Day, as part of the Humanities curriculum.
During the interactive all-day workshop, our Year 3 pupils and pupils from Wickham Market Primary School, travelled back to 1300BC to experience what life was like for the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt.
Hosted by Historian, Archaeologist and star of the BBC’s Horrible Histories, Mark Halls, together they uncovered the secrets hidden within the Valley of the Kings, played traditional Egyptian board games, explored a range of Egyptian artefacts – many of which come from Mark’s own personal collection – and got an insight into how people were prepared for the afterlife with a ‘mummification’ demonstration.
The pupils then enjoyed an afternoon of re-enactment, learning all about how the Egyptians dealt with the death of a pharaoh, tomb building, decorating, burial, and the coronation of a new pharaoh.
The event finished with ‘hunting on the Nile’ with further use of Mark’s fascinating artefacts to demonstrate to pupils the many skills, techniques and tools the Egyptians used daily.
