Year 6, as part of their studies of both Islam and Christianity, recently went to visit both Norwich Mosque and Norwich Anglican Cathedral.
After arriving at the Anglican Cathedral the guides took us on a wonderful tour to inform us about the beautiful 900 year old Norwich Cathedral. They told us Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments and taught pupils about the history of the Cathedral and about Christian symbolism.
After lunch we were met with warm reception at the Ihsan Moque by Hajj Tariq, who is the Mu’addin (calls people to prayer). Tariq told the children all about his faith and beliefs then went on to test us on our arabic and explained to Year 6 about the 5 pillars of Islam. He then invited the children to ask him questions. Forty five minutes later, our boys and girls had thrilled Tariq with a bombardment of questions and impressed him with their knowledge. We were also privilidged to be in the mosque as people came to prayer.
Our guides were incredibly complimentary about the boys and girls and as we journeyed back to Framlingham College Prep School, listening to the children discussing the day, it was clear that they had had a most wonderful day out.
