Last week four schools took part in the inaugural East Anglian Group Inter-School Spelling Bee for international pupils, hosted by RHS.
Framlingham College, Gresham’s, King’s Ely and Royal Hospital School participated, with twelve pupils representing each school. Huge congratulations go to Victor Yu who won his category beating 11 others, and also Chery Yu and Happy Xiong who came second and third respectively. Well done to Kris, Lucia, Ines, Safe, Bruno, Naiara, Seb, Toshio and Boom for their great participation.
RHS had organised pre-competition events, and so, on arrival pupils made their way to the parade ground where they were all psychologically prepared for the day ahead with some marching practice – Royal Hospital style! Pupils defrosted during a delicious lunch and were then treated to a wonderful medley of music performed by the Royal Hospital Band.
After lunch they got down to the serious business of the day -The Spelling Bee Competition. There were three categories and three rounds to reach the finals. Pupils had to spell as many words correctly as they could in one minute in front of a 60 strong audience. The atmosphere was electric and you could almost hear a pin drop as the audience willed the competitors on.
Our thanks go to RHS for organising such a wonderful day. We look forward to a re-match next year!
